Foundations of Pediatric Rehabilitation Therapies

Pediatric rehabilitation supports children with developmental delays, congenital conditions, and acquired injuries. Sound practice rests on understanding development, common conditions, and the family-centered approach. This foundational course provides that base. By the end of this course you will be able to describe developmental milestones across major domains, recognize common pediatric conditions seen in rehabilitation, identify the role of family-centered practice, and understand the principles of play-based intervention. What you will learn: - Developmental milestones across motor, communication, cognitive, and social-emotional domains - Common conditions including cerebral palsy, autism spectrum, developmental coordination disorder, and acquired injuries - The principles of family-centered practice and the parent as a partner - The principles of play-based and naturalistic intervention - The role of structured assessment using validated pediatric tools - The role of early intervention systems and educational supports - Ethical considerations specific to pediatric populations The course uses readings, developmental summaries, case examples, and reflection questions. Each module ends with applied exercises. This course is written for occupational therapists, physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, and other professionals working with pediatric populations. It does not replace supervised clinical training or specialty certification. By the end you will have a structured developmental and clinical foundation for pediatric rehabilitation.
