Long-Term Healthcare Strategy in Retirement: Planning for Decades, Not Months
Apply long-term strategy to manage healthcare costs, coverage, and long-term care planning across decades of retirement.
About this course
Healthcare planning in retirement is not a one-time decision. Coverage changes, health changes, and the long-term care question often becomes pressing only late in retirement. This applied course teaches you to think strategically across the full span.
By the end of this course you will be able to project healthcare costs across two or three decades of retirement, plan for long-term care with realistic funding options, adjust coverage as needs change, and integrate healthcare decisions with your overall retirement plan.
What you will learn:
- How to project healthcare costs across retirement decades, including premiums, out-of-pocket costs, and long-term care
- How to compare funding strategies for long-term care including self-funding, long-term care insurance, hybrid policies, and Medicaid planning
- How to revisit Medicare choices each year and recognize when a switch is warranted
- How to coordinate healthcare planning with retirement income and tax strategy
- How to plan for cognitive change and choose representatives who can navigate Medicare and care decisions later
- How to handle relocation, including how coverage and access change with a move
- How to integrate end-of-life care planning with healthcare planning earlier than most people do
The course is structured around six applied modules. Each produces a written artifact: a multi-decade cost projection, a long-term care funding plan, an annual review template, an income-and-tax integration sketch, a representative and decision plan, and an end-of-life integration document.
This course is written for retirees and those within five years of retirement. By the end you will move from short-term coverage decisions to a strategic, multi-decade plan, and the most consequential healthcare questions will be addressed before they become emergencies.
