Fundamentals of Ecology and Ecosystems

Curious about the intricate web of life and how natural systems sustain themselves? This course provides a comprehensive introduction to ecology, the science that explores the relationships between living organisms and their environment. By the end of this course, you will grasp the core principles governing ecosystems, enabling you to understand the natural world with greater clarity and appreciate its complex interdependencies. What you'll learn: * Understand the fundamental concepts of ecology and its various branches. * Explain the hierarchical organization of life, from organisms to biomes. * Analyze energy flow, food chains, food webs, and ecological pyramids. * Describe biotic interactions within communities and the process of ecological succession. * Grasp the mechanisms of major biogeochemical cycles, including carbon, nitrogen, and water. * Explore the concept of ecosystem services and the importance of ecological resilience. This course begins with essential terminology and foundational definitions, gradually building your knowledge through explanations of ecological principles and their practical applications. You will progress from understanding individual components to appreciating the dynamics of entire ecosystems. This course is designed for absolute beginners with no prior knowledge of environmental science or biology. If you are eager to learn about the natural world, this course is for you.
